How to Celebrate Birthdays in the USA

*Channels my inner 50 Cent*

Go, go, go, go, go, go

Go, shorty

It’s your birthday

We gon’ party like it’s your birthday

We gon’ eat cake like it’s your birthday

And if there’s no cake, it’s really not a birthday!

…Yes, you just bore witness to the beginning and end of my rap career. And no, the name of this blog is not misleading; I am here to talk about how to celebrate birthdays in the USA (and maybe provide an ad lib along the way). As a country made up of different people from all over the world, it’s not unusual to assume that a vast amount of birthday traditions exist here. But, birthday celebrations in America are actually as universal as 50 Cent’s ‘In da Club.’ And this is a good thing!

With certain birthday traditions being common practice in the USA, it only allows for bigger and better celebrations. Read below to learn more about how they celebrate and how you can make it even greater by sending cake and other gifts to your special someone in America.

Why Do We Give Birthday Cakes Instead of Pie

Ah, a mouth-watering question that has divided dessert lovers for decades: why do we give birthday cake instead of birthday pie? It’s a mystery that has puzzled many pastry chefs and sugar fanatics alike. After all, pies come in all flavors and sizes, just like cakes do. And, they’re just as delicious. (Some would argue even more so.) So, why is it when it comes to birthday parties, cake always seems to…well.. take the cake?

In this blog post, we’ll explore the history behind birthday cake and maybe even settle the debate between birthday cake and birthday pie once and for all.

Christmas Cakes From Around the Globe

You may love it, or you may despise it, but when it comes to Christmas cakes, there is no in-between. But, considering the fact that you’re reading this article, we will assume you’re either a Christmas cake cult-ling or simply curious as to what all the big fuss is about. And, we’re happy (but also a little hesitant) to tell you that you’ve come to the right place to find out.

Christmas is as synonymous with fruit cake as is with stuffed turkey and cranberry sauce. The key difference? Stuffed turkey is less controversial. However, despite this confectionery being the holiday punchline of the 21st century, it still forms part of Christmas celebrations across the globe. Read below as we dive into the festive and fruity tales of Christmas cakes around the world. And, why it will probably land up on your Christmas dinner table this year.

Scary Scrumptious: Spooky Cakes for Halloween

Although the custom of “trick-or-treating” never quite reached my own childhood, I have always found an affinity toward things mysterious and creepy. Whether it was through making imaginative concoctions and potions with soil and seawater or watching my all-time favorite Tim Burton film, “Corpse Bride” – the spooky themes of Halloween somehow trickled into my young years. I may not be an expert in spooky cakes, but I do take pride in being an amateur baker. So, merging these two specialties seems like a fun way to explore the flavors and customs of Halloween!

Equal parts spooky and delicious, let’s take a closer look at the scary scrumptious world of spooky cakes! With autumn flavors like spiced apple, cinnamon, sweet pumpkin pie, nutmeg, and death-by-chocolate (pun intended), there is no way these desserts won’t knock your socks off. Featuring ghosts, mummies, witches, and creepy crawlies, these festive cakes might bring more goblins to your doorstep. And, don’t let these freaky designs fool you; we’ve also included easy, no-bake treats for the Halloween mummies, I mean mommies, who don’t have all the extra hours to spare!

Spoiling Dad With Cake For Father’s Day

Perhaps their dry sense of humor, bad taste in fashion, and typical ‘good cop’ parenting style are what makes us so fond of Dad. Digressing for a moment, I’m also convinced that dads develop all their ‘Dad’ traits through a universal Zoom meeting called ‘Dad Classes 101’ or something. Anyway, just like cakes, dads come in all forms. There are funny ones, serious ones, tall ones, short ones, bald ones (no shade, we live for the look), and ones with sprinkles on top. Oh wait, that’s actual cake. No wonder it can be difficult to find the perfect gift and cake for Father’s Day!

Nonetheless, dads take up a well-earned space in our hearts, and what better way to show our appreciation than by giving them the gift of colorful and creamy confectionery this Father’s Day? Besides using this article to deliver well-balanced cake and dad jokes, I promise to provide you with some useful information. Keep reading to find out how you can make or send your dad a cake for Father’s Day that will have him in ‘tiers.’

Nailed It! Come Make a Cake with Me!

I’m sure this may come as a shock to many of my readers, but while I absolutely LOVE eating cake, making a cake isn’t exactly my day job. That’s not to say I would completely flop on that popular baking show (hence the chosen blog name), but I’m also not getting into a pastry chef school any time soon.

With that said, I had the opportunity to make a cake (and cupcakes) for one of my favorite tiny humans a few weeks back. For your entertainment, and to offer up some humble baking advice, I documented my progress! So, sit back and enjoy as I tell you my colorful tale of crumbling cake, haywire (but DELICIOUS) frosting, and a little girl who loved every single bite!
